have in your shower and bath water.  And you won’t need to be concerned when your kids drink directly from the tap or your pet drinks tap water.   Your plants will be healthier and you can use the water for your fresh water fish since there the water will be de-chlorinated.Whole House Water Filter: Do I need One?

There are few appliances you can purchase for your home that will contribute to the overall health of your family as a house water filter does.

Are there any disadvantages? Like any other household appliance, there is an initial cost to purchase and install the unit.  There will also be some maintenance, especially if there is a pre-filter on the unit (which is highly recommended because it extends the life of the whole unit if sediment is filtered out before reaching main filtration tank).  Choose a pre-filter that is easy to change or even washable.

You will also need to change out the filtration media in the main tank.  This will depend on which model you purchase but it is typically ready for replacement every 3-10 years.

But I live in an apartment! If you live in an apartment, you can achieve similar results to a whole house water filter by installing shower water filters and point of use water filters for each tap in your home.  It is not as convenient as having one overall system because you will  be replacing filters on a regular basis, but similar results can be achieved.
